6th Grade Language Arts BIOME NEWSPAPER: Due May 5 You will create the front page of a newspaper from your biome with a current date. This newspaper must include news and at least mention two other sections. Section ideas: news, sports, weather, comics (must be relevant to the country and current events), obituaries, or classifieds. Be creative with this; it gives you the opportunity to include information in a way that reflects your personality. Every aspect of this front page MUST center around your biome. No empty spaces! Keep the font sizes small. Consider the biome’s wildlife, issues, climate, unique facts, etc. This will all be done on Publisher and must be saved in your folder at school. GRADING: 40 points -- 10 points each for News-like (no white space and sounds like news) Centered entirely on biome Creativity Conventions ** BONUS ** for newspaper: Your newspaper must have at least four pages. You must include a news section with at least two news stories. Other areas are up to you, but they all must be based entirely on facts about your biome. Every aspect of this paper must be centered on your biome. BIOME BOARD GAME: Due May 7 After your newspaper is done, you will create a board game in groups. The object of the board game is to get to your home biome. Your pieces will be different animals from the home biome. Each group will have a different biome that you are trying to get your animals to. You will have to venture through four of the other biomes to get to the home biome of your animal. You will write 50 questions (10 for each biome). These questions will be on cards that will be used in the game. This game can be based upon another board game if you want. You will make a board, pieces, and a rules sheet. This game MUST be able to be played like a real game! BIOMES: Desert Rainforest Ocean (Marine) Taiga Tundra Freshwater Grasslands Deciduous Forest Write down and tell Mrs. Snyder your home biome and group members. GRADING -- Board Game: 60 points · Looks like a game 5 points · Makes sense (can actually play it) with rules 10 · Shows in-depth knowledge of biomes 10 · Every part of the game is centered on the biomes o Name/Players 5 o Questions 20 · Creativity/Neatness 10
